ChatGPT Photo Editing Prompts: 12 Copy-and-Paste Templates
Choose an edit, copy a template and adapt it to your photo. Includes portraits, product shots, background changes, a caricature prompt and a Roman Urdu example.
Attach your own photo, describe the change and say which details should stay. Start with one edit and inspect the result before publishing. The templates below are free to copy; image-tool access and usage limits depend on your ChatGPT account.
How to use a ChatGPT prompt for photo editing
Start with a photo you own or have permission to edit. Open ChatGPT, attach the image to a chat where image editing is available, and describe one result you want. Use the templates below as starting points and replace any detail that does not match your photo.
Keep the original file. Compare the result at full size, especially the face, fingers, product labels and background edges. If something changes unexpectedly, ask for one correction and repeat the details you want preserved. Image availability and limits depend on your plan and account settings.
These are original, adaptable prompt templates, not guaranteed outputs or examples of results tested on every account. You do not need to purchase a store package simply to read or copy them.
- Upload the source photo, rather than asking the model to guess its details.
- Choose one prompt and name the specific area or object to edit.
- Ask for a result that suits the real use: a profile photo, shop listing or social post.
- Check the output before publishing; generated edits can alter details.
A reusable photo-editing prompt formula
A useful edit request answers four questions: which image is the source, what should change, what should stay, and where will the image be used? Prefer visible details such as soft side lighting and a grey background over broad requests like make it amazing.
Edit the uploaded [PHOTO TYPE]. Change only [SPECIFIC EDIT]. Keep [FACE / PRODUCT / CLOTHING / COMPOSITION] as close to the source as possible. Use [LIGHTING / BACKGROUND / STYLE] for [INTENDED USE]. Avoid [UNWANTED CHANGE].
The details in brackets are placeholders. Replace them before sending the prompt.
1. Natural portrait lighting
Use this when a face is in shadow but you want an everyday photograph, not a beauty-filter effect.
Edit the uploaded portrait to soften the harsh shadow across the face and balance the exposure. Keep the same person, facial proportions, skin texture, expression, clothing and background. Preserve small freckles and lines. Aim for soft window light; avoid plastic skin, a new face or a dramatic glamour effect.
2. Professional profile photo
A profile crop can suit a work page or CV. Use a photo of yourself and inspect the face and hairline before sharing.
Make a professional head-and-shoulders profile photo from this image. Use a plain warm-grey background and soft, even light. Keep my face, age, hairstyle, glasses and clothing recognizable. Frame at eye level with space above the head. Retain natural skin texture. Do not add qualifications, badges, company logos or text.
3. Replace a distracting background
Name a specific setting and keep its light direction consistent with the original subject.
Replace only the busy background with a softly blurred garden in daylight. Keep the person, pose, face, clothing, hair edges and camera viewpoint as close to the original as possible. Match the new background light to the existing face lighting. Keep realistic contact shadows and avoid a bright cut-out halo.
4. Clean product photo for an online shop
Check colour, size and labels against the actual item. A convincing edit can still change the product.
Edit this product photo for an online listing. Put the item on a clean off-white surface with a subtle shadow. Preserve the exact item shape, material, colour, packaging and label wording. Keep the full product visible with space around the edges. Do not add accessories, change the quantity or invent branding. Use realistic studio lighting.
5. Gentle old-photo restoration
Restoration may invent missing detail. Keep the source scan and compare features instead of treating the output as historical evidence.
Restore this old photograph conservatively. Reduce scan dust and small scratches, improve faded contrast and keep the original black-and-white appearance. Preserve the people, clothing, composition and period details. Do not invent new jewellery, facial features or background objects. If an area is too damaged to recover confidently, keep it soft rather than inventing sharp detail.
6. Food photo with believable colour
Useful for a menu draft or a home-food business. Keep the portion and ingredients faithful to what you sell.
Improve the lighting and white balance in this food photograph. Keep the same dish, portion size, ingredients, plate and arrangement. Make the food look freshly photographed in soft daylight without adding steam, extra toppings or unrealistic gloss. Preserve the original texture and natural colours. Remove only the distracting empty wrapper in the background.
7. Instagram portrait crop
Request a crop rather than stretching the subject. Check the exported dimensions in your editor before posting.
Reframe this photo as a vertical 4:5 composition for an Instagram post. Keep the face and hands fully inside the frame, with a little breathing room around the person. Preserve body proportions, expression, clothing and the existing background style. Do not stretch the photo or change the pose. Keep space near the top for a caption I will add separately.
8. Friendly caricature from your photo
This is an illustration request, so some exaggeration is intentional. Say which traits should remain recognizable.
Create a friendly illustrated caricature based on my uploaded photo. Keep my hairstyle, glasses, clothing colours and recognizable facial features. Use a slightly larger head, a warm expression and clean ink outlines with simple colour shading. Place me at a tidy desk with a plain notebook. Avoid harsh exaggeration, added logos and text.
9. Warm evening light
Keep the desired change narrow; asking for a new location, outfit and expression at once makes drift harder to diagnose.
Give this outdoor portrait the look of soft late-afternoon light. Add a gentle warm highlight from the left and natural shadows on the opposite side. Keep the same person, pose, expression, clothes and location. Preserve skin tone without turning everything orange. Keep the finish photographic and avoid strong lens flares or added objects.
10. Remove one background distraction
Point out the exact object. This template is for your own scene, not for hiding a watermark or altering a document.
Remove only the empty plastic bottle beside the chair in the background. Fill that small area with floor texture consistent with its surroundings. Keep the chair, person, furniture, shadows and all other objects unchanged. Preserve the original crop and camera angle. Do not smooth or redesign the rest of the image.
11. Roman Urdu editing prompt
You can give the instruction in the wording you normally use. Check that the intended edit was understood before requesting another change.
Is uploaded photo ki sirf lighting aur white balance behtar karo. Chehra, skin texture, kapray, pose aur background wahi rehne do. Natural daylight jaisa result chahiye; face reshape ya beauty filter nahi chahiye. Agar koi detail clear nahi hai to usay invent mat karo.
12. Follow-up when the first edit changes too much
Use the original as a reference again. A narrow correction is easier to assess than restarting with several new effects.
The previous edit changed the face and the shirt colour. Use the original uploaded photo as the identity and clothing reference. Keep the new background, but restore the original face shape, expression, hairline and shirt colour as closely as possible. Make no other changes. Do not add sharpening or extra retouching.
When the edit changes the face, text or product
| Problem | What to ask for next | What to inspect |
|---|---|---|
| Face or identity drifts | Reattach the original and name the facial details to preserve. | Eyes, jaw, expression, glasses and hairline. |
| Label text changes | Ask to preserve the exact wording; add final typography in a design editor if necessary. | Spelling, numbers, logos and fine print. |
| Only part of the image should change | Identify the object and location; request no other edits. | Edges, repeated textures and nearby shadows. |
| Image looks artificial | Request less retouching and retain natural texture. | Skin, fabric, food and reflective surfaces. |
A more detailed prompt is still not a guarantee. Keep a human review step for any image representing a person or a product.
Do photo-editing prompts require ChatGPT Plus?
The prompt text is free to copy. Whether a particular account can perform an edit depends on the image tools and usage allowance available to it. Try the options shown in your account and read the current limit message before paying for more access.
For the free-use workflow, read our ChatGPT Free guide. If you need to compare a paid package, see ChatGPT Plus plans in Pakistan. Shared store access is a different arrangement from a subscription you purchase directly from OpenAI.
No fixed image quota, specific model or unlimited access is promised by these templates. A store subscription warranty does not remove provider feature limits.
Finish the image before you publish
Use an editing application to check the final crop, dimensions and text. For an online shop, compare the edited item with the product you will deliver. For a portrait, check that the person is still represented accurately and consents to the use.
For layouts and final typography, explore Canva packages. For short-form video captions and edits, compare CapCut Pro. The AI tools catalog and group buy packages have separate plan details; check those details rather than assuming all tools are included.

Frequently Asked Questions
What should a ChatGPT photo-editing prompt include?
Name the source image, the change, the details to preserve and the intended finish. Replace template placeholders with details from your own photo.
How do I ask ChatGPT to keep the same face?
Use the original photo as a reference and identify details such as face shape, expression, hairstyle and glasses. Compare the result carefully; a preservation instruction does not guarantee an identical face.
Can I write the editing prompt in Roman Urdu?
You can describe the desired edit in Roman Urdu. A sample is included above. Review whether the output follows your instruction and clarify any misunderstood detail.
Can I use these prompts for product photos?
Yes, adapt the product-photo template to your item. Check colour, shape, quantity and labels against the real product before using the edit in a listing.
Are these prompts proof that a shared plan has unlimited image editing?
No. Prompt templates do not establish package features or remove provider limits. Check the current account tools and the selected store package before ordering.

These original prompt templates were prepared using the provider guidance below. They are suggestions to adapt, not a claim that every template has been tested in ChatGPT or that an edit will preserve every detail. Provider references and store package terms were checked on November 5, 2026.
